Fairytales.

In five days, Prince William and Kate Middleton will be married. Because the royal affair will take place across the pond, here in the states on the east coast, that means the telecast will begin in the wee hours of Friday, April 29.  Unfortunately, I have to go to work that day-BOO!-, but you can bet your British buns I've got that puppy lined up to record on the DVR!

When I told Big Red I would be recording the wedding, he rolled his eyes and huffed.  Why? he wanted to know.  Why? Because it's a real life fairytale, that's why.  By some accounts, it's estimated that 2 billion will watch, and of those 2 billion, there will no doubt be little girls.  Little girls, resting on their bellies in front of the TV, hands propped under their chins as they watch Kate make the four minute walk down the Westminster Abbey isle.  Why?  Because through Kate, the little girl in all us big girls gets to live that quiet fantasy of marrying a her true Prince charming, and then be carried off to a real life castle in a horse-drawn carriage. Why? Because Kate is beautiful, and watching beauty is fun - besides, who wouldn't want to see The Dress?  Why?  Because even though Dianna died almost fourteen years ago, the world's fascination lives on through her two handsome boys.  Why? Because those who are fascinated with the monarchy, are hoping that William and Kate will have the Happily Ever After his parents could not achieve.

Why?

Because it's a beautiful story with beautiful characters, and all the pomp and circumstance that glitters in a way few of us will ever know.

Because it's a fairytale.  That's why.

I totally agree. I tivo-ed it and could not get enough. Watched with tea (in a cup and saucer) and a scone. SO good to just take a step back from all of the misery in the world and live vicariously...
